Eva’s Journey: From Depression to Self-Trust Through Psilocybin and DMT

Eva arrived at Eleusinia Retreat in a fragile state. A mother navigating depression, PTSD, and the complexities of parenting her 25-year-old son, she described her life as a cycle of climbing out of darkness only to fall back in again. Therapy, meditation, and exercise had carried her far, but they could only take her to about 80% of the well-being she longed for. She was searching for something deeper, a way to finally break free from the cycle.

Her decision to attend Eleusinia was swift but deliberate. She had explored clinical and retreat options, weighed the dangers of recreational use against the promise of healing, and recognized the need for a safe, structured environment. What stood out about Eleusinia was the authenticity of the community. In her words, “The people you attract are people who want to work through their problems. They’re not people who want a psychedelic vacation. I needed a safe place to go.”

Facing Fear in Ceremony

On the morning of her psilocybin ceremony, Eva was nervous yet surrounded by a sense of community. Breathwork and Qigong helped ground her, but as the medicine took hold, fear and anxiety rose to the surface. She first felt drawn to sit in an egg-shaped chair in the meadow, warm and cocooned as the world grew increasingly vivid around her. At first, the beauty was mesmerizing, but soon she described feeling like a pop-up book folding in on itself, losing all sense of self. Terrified, she wondered, “Why would anybody do this for fun?”

Yet even in her fear, Eva experienced profound care. The Eleusinia team walked with her, breathed with her, and reassured her that she had the strength to make it through. Through movement, conversation, and support, she began to realize that even when she felt powerless, she could still find her way forward.

Integration and New Understanding

At first, Eva worried she had failed at the experience. But in integration sessions, she began to see the deeper meaning. The question she kept asking was, “What do I do?” The answer was not given to her in visions or words, but emerged slowly in her own realization: she already had the answers. She simply needed to trust herself.

“I thought I didn’t love myself. But what I discovered was that I didn’t trust myself. And that is what was holding me back.”

This theme deepened in her breathwork practice. Though she could not release her emotions during the psilocybin journey, the following day, during breathwork, her body shook and sobs poured out. It was the release she had been waiting for. She described finding clarity, something she now longs to return to again and again.

A DMT Experience of Peace

Eva also spoke of her DMT session as a turning point. While fear appeared at first, she was guided into a space of peace. The message she received was simple and powerful: “I am here. I am enough.” In that moment, she felt both calm and strong.

Rediscovering Trust

Through psilocybin, DMT, breathwork, and community, Eva found a new foundation: trust in herself and her instincts. She realized that the ongoing challenges of parenting, PTSD, and life would not disappear, but she now had clarity and the tools to meet them.

“What I think I had thought was that I didn’t love myself. But it was really that I didn’t trust myself. Now I know my instincts are good. I can follow them.”

Eva’s story is a testament to the depth of healing that unfolds not only in the ceremony but in the integration afterward. It is a reminder that psychedelic work is not about instant answers, but about rediscovering inner strength and clarity.
