Returning to Eleusinia
What does it look like when someone not only visits Eleusinia, but carries the lessons home, weaving them into daily life and returning stronger? Jim’s story gives us a rare glimpse into exactly that. Nearly a year after his first visit, Jim sat down with Eleusinia’s founder, Jessica, to share what has changed since he first pressed the “book now” button in desperation.

Living with Cluster Headaches
Jim has lived with cluster headaches for over 35 years. He describes the pain as “like an ice pick behind my eye,” attacks so intense they bring him to his knees several times a day for months at a time. Doctors offered injections, oxygen tanks, even surgery, but nothing truly worked. By the fall of 2022, Jim had reached his breaking point. His wife’s research led him to Eleusinia, where he had his first transformative psilocybin experience.
A Shift in Perspective
He recalls that first 5-gram dose as a complete shift: “I immediately felt this disease was not bigger than I was. I could deal with this. Everything was going to be okay.” That shift never left him. Back home, Jim began monthly maintenance dosing with psilocybin, practicing what he learned at the retreat and teaching himself to lean into joy rather than fear.
Discovering DMT as a Tool
But Jim’s story doesn’t stop there. When another cycle hit in December 2023, it came harder than ever. This time, Jim reached for the DMT vape he’d been introduced to at Eleusinia. In his words: “Five or six puffs and ten minutes later, no pain. Not less pain, not reduced pain. Zero pain.” For a man who once faced suicide as his only way out of unbearable agony, this was nothing short of miraculous.
Overcoming Fear and Building Confidence
Even with such breakthroughs, Jim still carried fear around DMT. On his second visit to Eleusinia, he worked with Jessica and the team to untangle that fear, to practice using DMT outside of moments of crisis, and to finally learn how to extract it himself. He jokes about his “Scarlett O’Hara moment,” swearing, like the heroine of Gone With the Wind, that he would “never go hungry again” without a supply of medicine that works.
A Journey, Not a Destination
Through humor and honesty, Jim and Jessica’s conversation shows what makes Eleusinia so different: it is not just about what happens at the retreat, but about preparing guests to carry tools and confidence into the rest of their lives. Jim puts it best: “This is a journey, not a destination.”

Guests often use pseudonyms out of respect for privacy, and interviews are always recorded weeks or months after visits, never on location. Jim’s story is a moving reminder that real people are making real use of psychedelics to transform their quality of life.
