Psilocybin Healing for Grief: Andrew’s Story

Facing Unimaginable Loss

Grief is never simple. It reshapes our lives in ways we could never anticipate. For Andrew, the losses of his father and wife left deep scars, layered with trauma, substance use, and unanswered questions. Years later, he came to Eleusinia seeking clarity, peace, and a way to finally meet his emotions directly rather than mask them. His story, shared in this episode of the Eleusinia podcast, is one of heartbreak, surrender, and ultimately, gratitude.

The Weight of Grief

Andrew speaks openly about the challenges he faced: navigating addiction, losing his father, and then, only weeks after returning from treatment, facing the unimaginable when his young son came to his bedside one morning with the words, “Daddy, mommy fell and hit her head and she’s not talking to me.” Andrew ran downstairs to find his wife unconscious, cold to the touch. He performed CPR, waited desperately for the ambulance, and eventually watched as she was placed into a coma. After weeks of uncertainty, he was once again forced into the role of decision maker, making the same painful choice for his wife that he once had for his father.

He describes this time as surreal, devastating, and overwhelming. “I maintained sobriety, but it was purely survival,” he shares. Despite support from loved ones, the shock and trauma were immense. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and grief all interwove into a relentless struggle, pushing him to seek something beyond survival.

“I wanted to understand what I was feeling, not just take something to cover it up,” Andrew says. “I came to Eleusinia because I needed a safe space to go inward, to see clearly what was there.”

A Gentle Psilocybin Journey

During his macrodose psilocybin ceremony, Andrew discovered a surprising sense of gentleness. He recalls finding a hawk necklace, his father’s symbol, and soon after, looking up to see hawks circling overhead. Later, he noticed yellow butterflies, a presence he connected to his late wife.

“It was their way of saying they’re okay, and I’m okay,” Andrew reflects. “The veil felt so thin, and there was so much love.”

These moments transformed his grief, shifting it from pain toward connection and meaning. “I realized I get to live this life. I get to raise my children. I get to fall in love again. I get to be me. It’s an opportunity.”

Clarity and Boundaries

His retreat also reshaped his perspective on relationships and boundaries. Old connections rooted in negativity no longer have a place. Instead, Andrew feels lighter, clearer, and more committed to being present. “Maybe the most important thing is simple,” he says, echoing advice from his grandfather. “Be of good heart. That’s your legacy.”
